I went into labor around midnight. The doctor and nurses all seemed amazed at how quick it was, especially this being my first. I believe the yoga and the BCH helped me a lot. Thank you so much.

I only had a tiny internal tear that I didn't feel then and haven't felt in recovery at all. Thank goodness for all that prenatal yoga stretching!!
Labor and delivery were natural and went very well, though it certainly wasn't easy. There wasn't a point at which I truly thought about asking for an epidural. It was the most intense experience that I have ever had...and each day that passes leaves me with sweeter memories of the whole experience.
We played the Transitions CD that you use in class during the whole labor, and it really helped me to focus when I was loosing it. I found the breathing from class very helpful, especially in active labor. In transition, it was all I could do to just get through each contraction, but I feel very strongly that 5 months of weekly yoga practice of focusing on my breath and my baby, as well as getting my body ready, were directly responsible for a lot of how well it went. I am so thankful to you and your class, and all your kind words of support!
Again, thank you so much for your class and your support. My birth experience wouldn't have been the same without it!!

We had our baby! We didn't have to use any pain medication, though I doubted my ability to make it through many, many times.
Maria, I wanted to tell you that through the entire active labor time, I just kept saying in my head and out loud over and over again the things you had said to us in yoga class. "...millions and billions of women have done this before me....let go and release letting my body take over....my body knows what to do I just need to get my mind out of the way..." It was REALLY powerful. Yea for prenatal yoga! We also did a bit of the hypnosis we practiced - not for pain control but more for relaxation. During transition this turned out to be the best possible thing. I actually fell asleep between the contractions a few times.
Maria, thank you again for all of your guidance. We certainly would have had a very different birth experience had I not met you and taken your class. We had an amazing experience that we will cherish always and that is in great part because of your guidance. Thank you!

I wanted to let you know how beneficial I found your class to be; it was wonderful to actually "catch my breath" and find stretches that help during pregnancy.

I want to thank you for teaching such a great class. Being so comfortable with hospitals and medicines and deliveries, I never had any particular devotion to doing childbirth naturally and took your class more for the relaxation and health benefits.
BUT, my labor was almost enjoyable this time thanks to what you taught me about breathing into the pain, not making up stories about it, and the finite nature of it. And so it wasn't until after 6 hours of labor and 7 centimeters that I hailed the anesthesiologist and begged for my epidural. My son was born 45 minutes later!
So thank you for making my pregnancy and labor really enjoyable. You're a great teacher, and I hope that in a few years I'll need your prenatal classes again.
I was thinking of you and wanted to let you know how much your prenatal yoga classes helped me focus in the delivery room. I applied everything you taught and it produced a wonderful birthing experience for us all.

I was in your yoga for pregnancy class this spring, and just wanted to thank you for leading such a helpful class.
Thanks to some deep breathing - and realizing the pain would eventually end - I was able to avoid going to the hospital for almost four hours. I know that practicing breathing, relaxation and controlling my muscles during yoga class helped me tremendously during labor. Thank you so much for offering your class. If I ever have the fortune of becoming pregnant again, I will definitely sign up for another session!
I can't thank you enough for such a great class, I'm really going to miss it! I could really feel how the movements were helping and they actually made me feel stronger. Only after taking your class did I start considering natural birth...I also feel very connected with the baby and I know I owe a large part of that to your class, so thank you!!
I definitely intend to take your class the next time I'm pregnant! In the meantime I will continue to "rock the baby" and keep up my kegel exercises (doc said they were A-OK)!
I wanted to let you know that I delivered a beautiful little girl. I have been wanting to write you for a while now, because the delivery was very complicated, and I made good use of the yoga skills you taught me (breathing, some of the phrases and words you would say, the practice from the surrender stretch) - at several points during the delivery, I had to quickly move positions because the baby was in distress, and the nurses commented they had never seen someone move so agilely with an epidural. I told them it was due to yoga. It made a very difficult situation much more manageable, and I remained remarkably calm. So thank you, thank you, thank you, I will always be grateful for the preparation and skills you taught me.
I just wanted to say thank you and let you know how much your pregnancy yoga class helped me through my labor. I was induced, but otherwise had an unmedicated delivery, which is what I really wanted. I would not have been able to do that without the things I learned in your class. I kept the room dark and listened to CD's including your relaxation music. I tried to stay as relaxed as possible and focus on deep breathing. I think it went so fast because I was able to stay relaxed and let my body do its job. All of your encouragement about "letting your body do what it knows how to do" really made me believe I could get through labor without pain medication.
I will highly recommend your class to any of my pregnant friends.
Thanks in part to your class, I was able to have the unmedicated birth that I wanted. During labor, I used the breathing techniques from class and often imagined myself in the end-of-class relaxation pose. I also imagined your calming voice telling me to breathe through the contraction and relax my body. Thanks so much for your help!!

Maria, I talked with you a while back. I'd had a miserable first birth experience and hadn't really worked it through, and you helped in amazing ways.
I had my second baby, another emergency c-section, but what a different experience. It was all very healing, and I know you were part of that. I came out of that a very different person.
